A trip to Naxos

A trip to Naxos
April 10, 2017

Naxos is an island that has something special to offer to everyone. Whether you are looking for a place to relax, enjoy the sea and sun or you just want to see and do as much as possible. Naxos is a beautiful, green island. Naxos is the largest of the Cycladic islands and very different from the neighboring islands.

The distinctiveness of Naxos is due to the varied landscape. It is an island with mountains, valleys, rivers and springs, caves and long sandy beaches. This is what makes it one of the most popular islands for foreigners as well as local tourists.  However, the tourism hasn’t caused any serious damage of any kind the island hasn’t lost its beauty throw-out the years. Agriculture still plays a critical role of the local economy.

According to Greek mythology, Dionysus, the god of the grape harvest, was born in Naxos and so, it was a proof to the ancient Greeks that it was indeed a rich and fertile island.  Most residents of Naxos are involved in agriculture. You will also find lots of fishermen, but not so many as in other islands. Tourism is considered as an important element of revenue, especially for Scandinavians who absolutely adore vacation on this island. For accommodation, you can choose one of the luxury hotels or stay in a village where the pace is slow and calm.

Apart from all the places to visit, there are several water sport activities for enthusiasts of sea. If you fancy boat sailing, you will find that you are not the only one here and that it’s very easy to take a daily trip or a tour to the neighboring islands. A trip to Rina Cave and Kalados or Schinousa, Koufonisia or Piso Leivadi is definitely a must for people who love the sea, seize new adventures and of course love sailing!

“Absolutely amazing experience!”
What can I say other than this was the best experience ever! The Annabella is a beautiful sailboat with an awesome Captain George! We did the Panteronissia Islands, Holed Cave/snorkeling and stopped for lunch on our way home. George was so friendly, informative and just fun to be around. I would highly recommend this to anyone who goes to Naxos and is looking for a fun-filled and adventurous day trip.
